Latchkey #32 - 25/03/10

From Paul Stapleton, Bedsit Press

Pixie Pixel is now on Facebook! Be her friend!

It's a bit sad so far - I'm her only friend, and I'm not even sure I like her very much :-D

That said, I believe her friends may get to see some comic strips WAY ahead of being published. Almost worth putting up with the poetry readings for...

The Latchkey book is now available for pre-ordering

Yesterday I started laying out pages for the Latchkey book. It'll feature the first hundred or so Latchkey strips, it'll be out towards the end of April / beginning of May, and it will retail at £6.

Now here's the scheme - obviously printing has to be paid up-front (especially when you're an untrustworthy spivvo like myself), so what I'm doing is a deal for anyone who wants to pre-order it. Here's the perks that come with doing so:

1) You'll get it for £5 instead of £6, which includes postage.

2) You'll get it ahead of the strips so you won't have to spend each day agonising over what happens next (clue: usually nothing).

3) If you let me know your favourite Latchkey character, you'll get a personalised ink drawing of him or her on the inside cover with a message for you or whoever you're buying it for.

SO! If that all sounds like fun, then all you have to do is either send £5 to me via Paypal (my address is beat_bedsit@yahoo.co.uk) or send a cheque to:

Paul Stapleton, 105 Tivoli Crescent North, Brighton, Sussex, BN1 5NA

(Overseas though please add a couple of extra pounds for postage)

And the moment they arrive at my house I'll get busy with defacing the inside cover and posting it off to you post chaise.

Latchkey in anti-SAT campaign

From Paul Stapleton, Bedsit Press
The Primary Heads Union and the National Union of Teachers are combining to launch a campaign against SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) testing. SATs have been a bone of contention for years now, stifling a wider cirriculum and keeping teachers bound up in their application.

I was asked to do a Latchkey strip to go in with the campaign, which is the first commission the strip has receieved - very exciting. So much so that I did it the same morning I was asked.

Here it is anyway:

Latchkey featured on CPRE Website

Strange bedfellows perhaps, but Latchkey has been linked from the Campaign to Protect Rural England (East Midlands Regional Group). By all accounts the link will be there until enough members complain that it actually has nothing to do with the Campaign.

Latchkey in Bam Magazine!

Latchkey has its first printed residency, in the new Brighton publication Bam! Magazine. Each monthly issue will feature a page of four strips - you can collect it for free from various news stands, venues, pubs, cafes and shops around Brighton.
