The first comic strips I was exposed to were Calvin and Hobbes, The Perishers and Dilbert, and the thought of doing a daily strip has always appealed. Latchkey is the first that I've done with that format in mind. It's about a group of kids who hang about together, doing all the sorts of weird and innocent things that kids do. Much as I enjoy drawing dismal and depressing tales about divs and cretins, it's been really nice to do something more traditional and wholesome.
Latchkey very much takes its cue from the above comic strips; its supposed to be about the magic of friendship and imagination, and the importance of being your weird old self.
